Women's Tennis Clinches Top-Seed for Playoffs with Win at Mount Saint Mary

NEWBURGH, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State women's tennis team earned a 7-0 Skyline Conference victory at Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday afternoon, earning their sixth consecutive win and clinching the top-seed for next week's playoffs.

Farmingdale State (8-4, 6-0 Skyline) swept all three doubles matches as junior Natalia Furchel (Manorville, N.Y.) and freshman Kaelin Burnett (East Islip, N.Y.) posted a 6-1 win at first doubles, followed by a 6-1 victory from freshman Martine McGowan (Port Washington, N.Y.) and senior Gabriella Loria (Levittown, N.Y.) at second doubles. The senior duo of MacKenzie Gisler (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and Samantha Stolfi (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) closed out the sweep with a 6-2 win at third doubles.

In singles play, the Rams clinched the match victory with straight-set wins from Gisler (6-2, 6-0), McGowan (6-1, 6-0) and senior Heather McGullam (Hauppauge, N.Y.) (6-0, 6-0).

Senior Mikayla DeMaria (West Babylon, N.Y.) (6-0, 6-3) picked up a win at No. 5 singles,  Burnett (7-5, 6-0) tallied a victory in the second slot, and Furchel (6-1, 6-4) closed out the 7-0 sweep with a victory in the No. 1 position. 

Farmingdale State returns to action on Monday, October 20th, when they host Mount Saint Vincent at 5:00 p.m. to wrap up their regular season schedule before the Skyline Conference Championship kicks off on Wednesday.
