2012-13 Farmingdale State Athletic Banquet
Farmingdale, N.Y. – The 2012-13 Farmingdale State College Athletic Banquet was held at the Huntington Hilton in Melville, N.Y. on Tuesday, April 30, 2013. The banquet hosted over 250 student-athletes, fans and friends of Farmingdale State Athletics, who were excited to recap all of the team and individual accomplishments throughout the year. The featured awards this year were the All-Farmingdale State Team, the Chancellor’s Scholar-Athlete Awards, the Academic Achievement Award (for highest team GPA) and the Gerry Allard Service Award.
ALL-FARMINGDALE STATE TEAM
A freshman on the softball team who led the team in batting average, runs scored, hits, triples, home runs, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, stolen bases and fielding percentage.
A junior pitcher on the baseball team who led the nation with an impressive 0.75 earned run average. Dolce finished the season with a 6-1 record allowing five earned runs in 59.2 innings pitched.
A sophomore on the women’s soccer team who anchored a defense which recorded 11 shutouts in 2012. After leading her team to their sixth consecutive conference championship, she was named First Team All-Conference, Defensive Player of the Year, Skyline Tournament Most Valuable Player and Third Team NSCAA All-East Region.
A junior on the golf team who captured his second Skyline Conference Title this year after shooting a school-record 68 in the final round to earn Player of the Year honors. He has finished in the Top-10 in 12-of-13 events this year, including four wins.
A senior on the men’s basketball team and two-time All-American, led the nation in both rebounding and double-doubles, was ranked 7th in blocked shots and 9th in points per game. This season he was named an NABC, D3NEWS and D3Hoops All-American as well as the NABC All-District Player of the Year.
A 3-sport athlete who played on the women’s soccer, basketball and lacrosse teams. In soccer, she was named First Team All-Skyline and led her team to a conference championship in each of her four years. A starting guard, Merrill helped lead the basketball team to a Skyline Championship and a berth into the NCAA Tournament.
A sophomore on the women’s tennis team who earned First Team All-Conference honors this season. She was 9-4 in first singles and 8-4 in the #1 doubles position. Sickles led her team to their first-ever appearance in the Skyline Conference Finals this year.
A sophomore team captain on the women's lacrosse team helped lead the Rams to a 15-3 record. This season Thoden broke her own school record for caused turnovers and draw controls. She record team-highs in points, assists, draws, ground balls, caused turnovers and game-winning goals.
A sophomore on the men’s tennis team who was named the Skyline Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. This year in #1 singles, Vijungco was 8-2 overall and 5-0 in Skyline matches and posted an 8-5 record in the #1 doubles position.
A senior on the baseball team who led the Rams in six offensive categories this season. This year he holds single season school records in batting average, on-base percentage and stolen bases. He will leave Farmingdale State as the all-time leader in runs scored and stolen bases.
The Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award was created to recognize outstanding academic excellence and outstanding athletic achievement. Recipients were selected after a thorough review of their credentials and accomplishments by athletic directors from across the State University System.
Four Farmingdale State athletes received the prestigious 2013 Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award from the State University of New York.
This years winners were: Michelle Mongiello (Softball - 3.74 GPA), Tim Caden (Men's Lacrosse - 3.53 GPA), Matt Pollock (Golf - 3.44 GPA) and Krystin Shand (Women's Lacrosse - 3.30 GPA).
Academic Achievement Award
Each year at Farmingdale State one team earns the Academic Achievement Award for the highest overall cumulative grade point average. This year the award was given to the baseball team who tallied an impressive 3.11 GPA. Also, women's tennis had a 3.09 GPA, women's volleyball a 3.08 GPA and the men's soccer team recorded a 3.02 GPA.
