Five-Run Ninth Inning Pushes Panthers Over Rams

Farmingdale State fell to 5-20, 4-15 Skyline after losing 12-8 to SUNY rival Old Westbury (14-18, 9-9 Skyline) in a conference home game on the new Farmingdale turf field. The Rams trailed 7-5 after seven innings, before scoring one in the eighth to make it 7-6. The Panthers sealed the victory with a five-run ninth inning rally. Old Westbury's Zach Flinn (Levittown, NY) pitched five innings for the win, while freshman Josh Deitch (Melville, NY/Hills East) took the loss for the Rams.

John Decrescenzo (Brooklyn, NY) led the Panthers with four hits, while Ricardo Pena (New York, NY) finished with three runs batted in for Old Westbury. Batting in the lead off spot for the Panthers, Felix Tatis (Brooklyn, NY) had three hits, 2 RBI's and two runs scored.

Patrick Manganaro (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) led the Rams with three RBI's, while Nick Barone (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) finished with two hits and three stolen bases. Rob Pisaneschi (Westhampton Beach, NY/Westhampton Beach) pitched four relief innings for Farmingdale and Eric Boyajian (Middletown, NY/Minisine) faced two batters in the ninth, before senior captain Anthony Scali (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) made his pitching debut for the final three outs of the ninth inning.

Scali was impressive in the Rams first game on the new turf field, starting at centerfield, moving to shortstop in the seventh inning and finishing up the game on the mound. Scali went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four stolen bases.

The Rams will host Staten Island on Tuesday, May 3rd at 3:30pm in a non-conference single game.
