Farmingdale, NY - The New Jersey City Gothic Knights (7-5) won both games of todays non-conference baseball double-header against Farmingdale State (1-8) in Farmingdale, NY. The games were originally scheduled for noon, but the heavy rains caused the games to be delayed until 1:30pm.
In the first game, the Rams led 7-3 after four innings, but NJCU fought back with one run in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh to tie the score at 7-7 and force extra innings. NJCU would score five runs in the eighth inning and hold Farmingdale scoreless for the 12-7 victory. Junior Matt Caravano (Elizabeth, NJ/Roselle Catholic) led NJCU with three runs batted in and four hits. Junior Rob Motacki (Union, NJ/Union) got the win for NJCU, after allowing only one hit in the final four innings pitched. Sophomore Rich Santoro (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) and junior John Basquez (Sunnyside, NY/Cordoza) led the Rams with two hits each, while junior Nick Barone (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) had a 2-run triple in the first inning.
Game two was called because of darkness in the bottom of the sixth. New Jersey City took a quick 2-0 lead after the first and added six more over the final five innings for an 8-0 victory. Senior captain Javan Camacho (Jersey City, NJ/Ferris) led the team with three hits and three runs batted in. Sophomore Marcus Wiggins (Jersey City, NJ/Lincoln) allowed just four hits in the shutout win.
The Rams now host Cazenovia, Old Westbury, SUNY IT and Baruch next weekend in round-robin games on Saturday and Sunday, March 18-19th. Farmingdale State plays Cazenovia in a double-header starting at 10:00am, with a single game between Old Westbury and SUNY IT to follow at 3:00pm. On Sunday, the Rams face SUNY IT at 11:00am for a single game, followed by a single game between Old Westbury and Baruch at 3:00pm.
