Farmingdale, NY - The Farmingdale State baseball team (13-14, 8-2) split two games with Skyline Conference opponent Mount Saint Vincent (11-14, 3-7) on Sunday afternoon with a 4-0 loss and a 2-1 win in Farmingdale, NY. Mount Saint Vincent sophomore pitcher John O'Leary (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot) got the win throwing nine innings for a complete game shutout in game one, allowing eight hits with one strikeout. Freshman outfielder Tom Heeman (Valley Stream, NY/Hewlett) knocked in the game-winning RBI in game two with a double over the left fielders head, securing the split of the conference doubleheader.
In game one, the Rams had eight hits with three players picked off on the bases. Heeman had two hits with a stolen base, while freshman Anthony Thompson (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) finished 2-for-4. Sophomore pitcher Rob Savarese (Syosset, NY/Syosset) pitched a complete game in defeat for Farmingdale State, allowing just three hits, three walks and striking out two.
In game two, the Rams took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning as sophomore Keith King (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) connected for a single to score freshman Joe Sorrentino (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham Wading River) from second base. Mount Saint Vincent tied the score at 1-1 with a double by sophomore Tanner Munroe (Milford, NY/Foran). Heeman knocked in junior John Basquez (Sunnyside, NY/Cordoza) for the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Jesse Scott (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) got the win for Farmingdale State, pitching one inning with two hits and one strikeout.
Farmingdale State faces St. Joseph's College in Patchogue, NY on Monday, April 10th at 3:30pm for the first game of their conference double-header. The second game will be played on Wednesday, April 12th at 3:30pm.
