Farmingdale, NY The Farmingdale State baseball team (15-16) won both games of a non-conference doubleheader against visiting Baruch College (9-12) on Saturday afternoon with 16-7 and 20-6 victories in Farmingdale, NY. Sophomore pitchers William Jansen (Westhampton Beach, NY/Westhampton Beach) and Rob Savarese (Syosset, NY/Syosset) got the wins for the Rams.

In game one, Farmingdale took advantage of 15 walks and 10 hits to put 16 runs on the board including a nine-run sixth inning to break a 7-7 tie game. Sophomore designated hitter Rich Santoro (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) broke the tie in the sixth with a two-run triple to right field. Junior Bryan Ciminelli (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) executed a perfect squeeze bunt-single to bring in Santoro. The Rams would add six more runs in the inning to give them a nice cushion for the top of the seven. Freshman first baseman Michael Labrozzi (Sag Harbor, NY/Pierson) finished with two hits and two runs batted. Freshman Tom Heeman (Valley Stream, NY/Hewlett) added an RBI-double for Farmingdale. The Bearcats' offense was led by senior left fielder Thomas Russo (Howard Beach, NY/St. Francis Prep), who went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in. Freshman third baseman Joseph Valentin (Co-op City, NY/Dewitt Clinton) added a two-run double in the third and sophmore first baseman Max Loehrke (New York, NY/Brooklyn Tech) had three hits on the day.

In game two, the Rams jumped out to an 8-1 led after the first inning. Tom Heeman had a two-out three-run double to help Farmingdale to the early lead. Freshman third baseman Anthony Thompson (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs batted in and two runs scored. Freshman shortstop Joe Sorrentino (Shoreman, NY/Shoreman Wading River) was 2-for-3 with a double, four runs batted in and two runs scored. Junior second baseman Ryan Pembroke added a two-run in-the-park home run in the first. Baruch was led by Thomas Russo who went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in.

Farmingdale State will face Manhattanville on Saturday, April 22, 2006 at noon for a Skyline Conference doubleheader in Purchase, NY.
