Baseball to Host Two Ranked Teams in 2007

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Farmingdale State baseball will play against two of the best in Division III this season. Cortland State and Kean University have been ranked on the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Preseason Division III Poll which was released on Friday, February 2nd. Cortland was ranked 6th after a 39-9 record last year and Kean (31-17) was marked at 20th. Both games will take place at Farmingdale in the new stadium. The Rams and second year Head Coach Keith Osik start practice this Monday, February 5th. There are 14 returners from the 19-19 2006 squad, including All-Conference selections Tom Heeman and Keith King. Both Heeman and King were named Second Team All-Skyline last year. Heeman finished the year with a .339 batting average and was ranked the 10th toughest to strike out in Division III, striking out just three times in 121 at bats, while King led the team with 21 walks and a .484 on-base percentage. Also returning is pitcher Jesse Scott and outfielder Rich Santoro. Scott held a 2.28 ERA in 2006 and recorded the second no-hitter of his career on April 2nd in a 5-0 win against Merchant Marine. Santoro, who was the first to hit a homerun out of the new field in May of 2005, was the offensive leader last season with a .368 average and 43 hits.

Farmingdale State will look to make a first-ever Skyline Conference Playoff appearance with the help of the new talent that has flooded the Farmingdale roster. The season opener is February 28th against #20 Kean University, before the team heads to Orlando for Spring Training at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex from March 7th - 12th. The Rams are scheduled to play Gwynedd-Mercy, Muhlenberg, Daniel Webster and Fairleigh Dickinson on the six day trip.
