Farmingdale State, 4
Farmingdale, NY - The Farmingdale State baseball team (0-1) opened up their season today with a 10-4 loss to #20 Kean University (2-0) in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Cougars jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning off a senior center fielder Joseph D'Andrea (Hamilton, N.J./Steinart) triple to left center, scoring junior second baseman Maikel De La Rosa (Newark, N.J./Barringer) from 1st.
The Rams came back to take the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the 2nd inning with a pair of run-scoring singles by junior right fielder Anthony Mazzilli (North Babylon, N.Y./Nassau CC) and junior infielder Frank Italiano (Sayville, N.Y./St. John the Baptist).
That lead would fade as Kean capitalized on three errors, four walks and a hit batsman in the 4th to make it 7-2. Farmingdale would commit two more errors in a three-run 6th for the Cougars.
The Rams tried to fight back, adding two runs off a junior catcher Fidel Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y./Western Oklahoma) RBI-double to left in the 5th and an Italiano RBI-single through the left side in the 6th.
Farmingdale out hit Kean 10-7 but the Rams gave it back by committing a total of six errors and giving up seven walks on the day.
Farmingdale State will look to their Spring Trip to Florida next week to get their season back on course. The Rams will play seven games in four days against Gwynedd Mercy, Muhlenberg, Daniel Webster, and FDU-Florham.
