Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team, playing in their first night game in their new stadium, lost to sixth-ranked Cortland State(10-0) by a score of 16-5 in Farmingdale, N.Y. After the Red Dragons jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the top of the 4th inning, the Rams(6-4) fought back to make it 5-4 in the bottom of the frame. Cortland State quickly regained control, scoring a total seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings to increase their lead to eight.
Farmingdale was led by sophomore Tom Heeman (Valley Stream, N.Y./Hewlett), who went 3-for-3 with a triple and run scored. Both Fidel Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y./Western Oklahoma) and Brian Benvenuto (Dix Hills, N.Y./Hills West/Nassau CC) went 2-for-4 in defeat.
Senior pitcher Jon Rockfeld (Islip Terrance, N.Y./East Islip) pick up the win for the Red Dragons, giving up four runs on seven hits and striking out four over four innings. Junior shortstop Matt Vitalone went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a run batted in. Senior Dan Maycock (Utica, N.Y./T.R. Proctor) was productive off the bench, going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.
The Rams will look to get back on track tomorrow (Friday) against William Patterson at 3:00 p.m. in Farmingdale, N.Y.
