Farmingdale, N.Y - The Farmingdale State baseball team split a Skyline Conference doubleheader with St. Joseph's College this afternoon in Farmingdale, NY. Sophomore Tom Heeman (Valley Stream, N.Y./Hewlett) pitched a complete game for the 7-1 victory, giving up one run on five hits and striking out six. The second game went scoreless through eight innings. The Golden Eagles took the lead on a bases-loaded clearing double by junior catcher Tyler Ruthizer (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) in the top of the ninth. St. Joseph's went on to win 5-0.

In game one, junior Manny Solomon (Medford, N.Y./Globe CC) started the Rams' scoring in the second with a sacrifice fly to right field and junior Luis Feliciano (Bronx, N.Y./Park West) had a run-scoring ground out. Freshman Frank Ennis (Commack, N.Y./Commack) later scored on a passed ball.

In the bottom of the third, Junior catcher Fidel Rodriguez (Bronx, NY/Western Oklahoma) added to the lead with a run-scoring triple to right-center. Sophomore Brian Benvenuto (Dix Hills, N.Y./Hills West/Nassau CC), Solomon and Feliciano all had RBI singles later in the same inning to increase the lead to seven.

In game two, Rams junior pitcher Rob Savarese (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) pitched six scoreless innings, giving up five hits and two walks, and striking out six. On the other end, St. Joseph's junior pitcher Anthony Atanasio (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) went nine scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and striking out six. Ruthizer finished 2-for-4 with three runs batted in.

Farmingdale will face New Jersey City on Wednesday. The twilight doubleheader is slated for a 3:30pm start.
