Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team (14-11) defeated Polytechnic University (5-21) by the score of 9-5 under the lights at the Farmingdale State College's new baseball stadium in Farmingdale, N.Y. Freshman pitcher Mike Kobel (Patchogue, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) pitched a strong five and a third shutout innings for the win, giving up only one hit and a walk while striking out five.
The Rams offense was lead by junior left fielder Manny Solomon (Bronx, N.Y./Globe CC), going 2-for-4 with a bases-loaded-clearing triple to left-center field and a run scored. Freshman first baseman Don Moscatelli (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) added two singles and three runs scored.
Senior second baseman Cliff Mahoney (Yonkers, N.Y./Fordham Prep) and senior designated hitter Joe Pontillo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) both added two hits each in defeat for the Fighting Blue Jays.
Farmingdale State will continue their fight for a playoff spot with two home conference doubleheaders this weekend. The Rams will face Manhattanville on Saturday and Mount Saint Mary's on Sunday. Both series will start at Noon and will take place at the new baseball stadium on the campus of Farmingdale State College in Farmingdale, N.Y.
