Rams Split Conference Doubleheader with Manhattanville
Apr 21, 2007

Game 1

Farmingdale State, 4

Manhattanville, 3

Game 2

Manhattanville, 5

Farmingdale State, 0

Farmingdale, NY ? The Farmingdale State baseball team (15-12, 7-5 Skyline) split a conference doubleheader today with a 4-3 win and a 5-0 loss to Manhattanville College (14-14, 8-4 Skyline) in Farmingdale, N.Y. Rams' pitcher Rob Savarese (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) picked up the victory in relief for the opener. Valiants' starting pitcher Steven Arroyo-Falcon (Bronx, N.Y.) threw a complete game for the win in the second.

In the first game, freshman third baseman A.J. Tirano (Rye, N.Y.) opened up the scoring with an RBI single to left center in the top of the second inning for Manhattanville.

Farmingdale would answer back in the bottom of the frame with three runs. Freshman catcher Zach Nersesian (Nyack, N.Y./Nyack) singled in a run and sophomore center fielder Tom Heeman (Valley Stream, N.Y./Hewlett) singled in a pair.

The Valiants' would match the score, 3-3, in the third inning with a pair of run-scoring singles by sophomore right fielder Jason Monforte (White Plains, N.Y.) and Tirano.

Both pitching staffs would keep the bats quiet until the bottom of the eighth when junior left fielder Manny Solomon (Bronx, N.Y./Globe) doubled, scoring Heeman for the Rams' eventual winning run.

The second game was all Manhattanville as Arroyo-Falcon kept the Farmingdale bats silent. Arroyo-Falcon pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only four hits over seven innings. Sophomore center fielder Steven Pinto (Yonkers, N.Y.) finished the second game 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Tirano added two hits, going 4-for-6 for the day with four runs batted in, a walk, and a run scored.

Farmingdale State will face Mount Saint Mary's tomorrow in another Skyline Conference doubleheader at Noon in Farmingdale, N.Y.
