Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team fell tonight, 8-2, in a non-conference home game against conference opponent St. Joseph's (13-22) in Farmingdale, N.Y. Senior catcher Bryan Ciminelli (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) and second/third basemen Ryan Pembroke (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) played in their final home game tonight for the Rams (18-13).
After a scoreless first inning, the Golden Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second with a double down the left field line by junior catcher Mike Hernandez (Lake Grove, N.Y./Centereach) to drive in two runs. There would be three more scoreless innings after that, before St. Joe's added three more to push to a 5-0 lead.
In the top of the ninth, the Golden Eagles added three more for the 8-0 advantage and the home team had last ups. Pembroke was the first man on base in the inning for Farmingdale with a walk. He then advanced to third on an error by St. Joe's and junior second basemen Frank Italiano (Sayville, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) drove him in with a single up the middle. Italiano stole second and then scored on another Golden Eagles error to make it 8-2 ,two outs, and freshman first basemen Don Moscatelli (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) on second base. Sophomore outfielder John Anarumo (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) was hit by a pitch to take first but the Rams could not finish the comeback.
Farmingdale will travel to Hoboken, N.J. on Saturday, April 28th for a conference doubleheader against Stevens at Noon. They will then play Mount Saint Vincent in another conference doubleheader on Sunday, April 28th, the game has been changed to AT Farmingdale at 6:00 p.m.
