Fishkill, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team gave a strong performance on day two of the Skyline Conference Tournament in Fishkill, N.Y. at Dutchess Stadium, home of the single A baseball Hudson Valley Renegades. The Rams defeated Centenary College 2-1, before falling to Stevens 3-0 to finish out the season with a program best record of 21-17.

Against Centenary College in the first game of the day, freshman pitcher James Raimondi (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue) held the defending champion Cyclones to four hits and struck out five in eight innings of work. Freshman reliever Billy Garofalo (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue) came in for the final inning, getting the save and securing the 2-1 victory. Farmingdale scored their two runs in the bottom of the first on two hits and would hold on throughout, knocking Centenary out of the playoffs and moving on to face Stevens.

In the second game, the Rams fell behind early as the Ducks senior third basemen Ryan Birkenstock (Smithville, N.J.) knocked in two runs in the first with a double down the left field line. Farmingdale would let up another run in the third and could not get anything going, falling 3-0 to Stevens. Junior outfielder Rich Santoro (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) collected two hits for the Rams. Junior pitcher Rob Savarese (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) took the loss as he allowed four hits and three runs over 2.1 innings of work.

With the win, the Ducks (19-19) advanced to Sunday's Championship round where they will face top-seeded Manhattanville College at Noon. Stevens will have to win two games over the Valiants to capture the conference title. Manhattanville will be offering a live audio webcast of the championship games.
