Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Farmingdale State baseball
team (2-8) won their home opener today with a victory over visiting
CCNY (1-4). Junior Tom Heeman (Valley Stream, N.Y./Hewlett) got the
starting nod for the Rams and pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings,
allowing four hits and striking out four. Farmingdale scored two
runs in the first and added four more over the next two innings to
build up a 6-0 lead. They allowed two runs in the eighth, but came
back to score two more for the final 8-2 win.
Sophomore catcher Zak Nersesian (Nyack, N.Y./Nyack) and sophomore designated hitter Mike Labrozzi (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) both went 2-for-3 for the Rams, along with one run scored and one RBI. Junior shortstop Brian Benvenuto (Dix Hills, N.Y./Hills West) finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored.
For CCNY, sophomore designated hitter Joseph Cleto (Bronx, N.Y./Cescar DR) led the Beavers going 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Farmingdale State will host New Jersey City University for a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday, March 16th.
