Rams Sweep Home Doubleheader over New Jersey City

Farmingdale, NY – The Farmingdale State baseball team (4-8, 0-0) swept New Jersey City (3-9, 0-0) in a non-conference doubleheader this afternoon in Farmingdale, NY. Rams senior pitcher Rob Savarese (Syosset, NY/Syosset) pitched six innings giving up five hits and one earned run, leading the team to a 7-3 victory.  Senior captain Jesse Scott (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) received the win in the second game going 5 1/3 innings, giving up only one run.

In game one, the Rams were led by junior shortstop Brian Benvenuto (Dix Hills, N.Y./Dix Hills/Nassau). Benvenuto went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.  Senior outfielder Anthony Mazzilli (North Babylon, N.Y./Nassau) contributed for Farmingdale by going 1-for-4 on the day with two RBI’s and scoring one run.  New Jersey City first baseman Jose Colon (Brooklyn, N.Y./LaSalle Academy) scored two of the Gothic Knights three runs in the game. 

In game two, the Rams’ offense exploded scoring twelve runs and racking up fourteen hits.  Senior infielder Luis Feliciano (Bronx, N.Y./Park West) went 2-for-3 with two RBI’s and three runs scored.  Benvenuto added two more hits and three RBI’s to his already impressive day.  Senior designated hitter Mike Labrozzi (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) went 2-for-3 scoring two runs for the Rams.  New Jersey City junior outfielder (Irvine, CA/Woodbridge) went 2-for-3 in the game to lead his team in hits.  Farmingdale improved to 3-0 at home this season. 

The Rams face Yeshiva on Tuesday, March 16th in a Skyline Conference doubleheader at 4:00 pm in Farmingdale, NY.
