Rams Fall to Defending National Champs

Kean University - 7, Farmingdale State - 1

Union, N.J. - The Farmingdale State men's baseball team (7-9) fell to Kean University, the defending Division III National Champions, on Tuesday afternoon 7-1. The Rams and starting pitcher Rob Savarese (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) held the Cougars scoreless for four innings before allowing a run to score in the fifth, but would tie it back up in the top of the sixth with a Tom Heeman (Valley Stream, N.Y./Hewlett) double, a single by Mike Labrozzi (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) to move Heeman over to third, and an Anthony Mazzilli (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) RBI single to score Heeman and tie it at 1-1.

In the bottom of the sixth, Kean scored four runs to break away and added two more in the seventh.

Savarese pitched five innings for Farmingdale State, allowing just three hits (none for extra bases) and one run. Heeman led the Rams with three hits in four at-bats.

The Rams host Staten Island for a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, March 27th at 3:30 p.m.
