Rams Win in 14 over the Dolphins

Farmingdale State - 2 (14 inn), Staten Island - 1

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team improved to 8-10 overall tonight with a 2-1 victory over non-conference opponent Staten Island (3-7) in Farmingdale, N.Y. The game went 14 innings and lasted four hours and four minutes. This was the longest game recorded for the Rams, since becoming a Division III team in 2000.

Farmingdale scored first in the sixth inning when sophomore outfielder Steve Campbell (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) walked and advanced to third on senior infielder Luis Feliciano (Bronx, N.Y./Park West) single. Campbell scored on a double play ball and the Rams held the 1-0 lead up until the eighth.

In the eighth, the Dolphins scored with a single to right center by senior outfielder Ray Valerio (Brooklyn, N.Y./Utrecht) and an RBI triple to left center by junior outfielder Joel Pratts (Brooklyn, N.Y./Telecommunications).

With five scoreless innings to follow, the Rams loaded the bases in the fourteenth. The inning began with a single by freshman infielder Kevin Curtis (Riverhead, N.Y./Riverhead), followed by senior outfielder Anthony Mazzilli (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) reaching on an error by the third basemen. The Dolphins intentionally walked senior infielder Frank Italiano (Sayville, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) and that would fill up the bases with no outs.

Sophomore outfielder Frank Ennis (Commack, N.Y./Commack) hit a sacrifice fly to center field which would score the winning run for Farmingdale State for the 2-1 win.

The Rams will travel to face the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Sunday, March 30th for a conference doubleheader at Noon.
