Labrozzi Powers Rams in Doubleheader Sweep over Maritime

Labrozzi (Sag Harbor, N.Y./ Pierson) led the Rams today with a 7
for 7 performance at the plate, including three triples. Labrozzi
had seven runs batted in and five runs scored on the day. The
Farmingdale State baseball team (14-13, 7-5 Skyline) swept a
conference doubleheader over Maritime College (4-13, 4-6 Skyline)
this afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y.
In game one, junior starting pitcher Tom Heeman (Valley Stream,
N.Y./Hewlett) pitched 5.2 innings of shutout baseball, striking out
nine and allowing only two hits. Mike Labrozzi went 4 for 4 with
six RBI’s and three runs scored. Senior second baseman Frank
Italiano (Sayville, N.Y./ St. John the Baptist) went 2 for 5 in the
game, scoring one run and recording 2 RBI's. Junior shortstop Brian
Benvenuto (Dix Hills, N.Y./ Hills West/ Nassau) and sophomore
outfielder Steve Campbell (Massapequa, N.Y./ Massapequa) were each
2 for 3 at the plate, with two runs scored.
In game two, Maritime held a 2-1 lead in the top of the third
inning after a home run to right field by designated hitter Matthew
Cresswell (Commack, N.Y./ Commack). Labrozzi tripled for the Rams
with no outs in the top of the fourth and then scored to tie the
game on a suicide squeeze bunt by sophomore Vinny Block (Merrick,
N.Y./ Chaminade/ St. Peter’s). Farmingdale added four runs in
the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-4 lead and went on the win the
game 7-4. Freshman Drew Dallanegra (Shoreham, N.Y./ Shoreham Wading
River) pitched 2/3 of an inning in relief and recorded the win for
the Rams.
The Rams travel to Manhattanville for a non-conference
doubleheader on Tuesday, April 15th at 4:00 pm.
