Late Inning Rally Catapults Rams into Skyline Championship

Game 5: #2 St. Joe's - 5,     #1 Farmingdale State - 10


Farmingdale, N.Y. - In game five of the Skyline Baseball playoffs, Farmingdale State won 10-5 over St. Joseph's College to advance to the Championship Game.

St. Joe's jumped ahead early with four hits for a 2-0 lead, but the Rams got one run when senior Luis Feliciano (Bronx, N.Y./Park West) came in on a sacrifice fly by sophomore outfielder Mike Labrozzi (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) for a 2-1 score at the end of the first.

After no scoring in the second, St. Joe's scored two more runs for a 4-1 lead. In the fourth, the Rams chipped away with a run, an RBI single through the left side from sophomore designated hitter Donny Moscatelli (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa), Labrozzi scored for a 4-2 score.

Both teams scored one in the fifth, now a 5-3 St. Joe's lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Steve Campbell started up a Farmingdale rally with a single to centerfield, Feliciano singled to right field, moving Campbell over to third. Junior shortstop Brian Benvenuto (Dix Hills, N.Y./Hills West) ripped another single to centerfield for an RBI, scoring Campbell, still a St. Joe's lead but now 5-4. Labrozzi got his second RBI of the day to score Feliciano from second with a single to left field, tie game 5-5. 

Frank Ennis (Commack, N.Y./Commack) led off the bottom of the eighth with a double to right field for the Rams. Zak Nersesian (Nyack, N.Y./Nyack) followed with an RBI single, giving Farmingdale a 6-5 lead. The Rams would add four more runs in the inning, giving them a 10-5 lead. Sophomore closer Billy Garofalo (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) pitched a scoreless ninth inning to seal the victory for Farmingdale.

The Rams now play for the Championship tomorrow afternoon at Noon. The winner will receive an automatic bid to the Division III NCAA Tournament.
