Pitkin Pitches Complete Game to Knock Off WNEC

#6 Clarkson - 5, #5 Western New England - 2


Farmingdale, N.Y. - Clarkson right hander Austin Pitkin (Dexter, N.Y.) pitched a complete game, 5-2 victory, over Western New England College to knock them out of the NCAA Division III New York Regionals and keep his team alive in the bracket. The senior struck out seven and allowed no walks in the win, improving the Golden Knights to 23-20 on the season, while WNEC finished the year at 30-17.

Clarkson jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first two innings, scoring two runs in the first on three hits and two errors, before senior Matt Giordano (Liverpool, N.Y.) added another run in the second with an RBI single to left.

The Golden Bears got two back in the top of the fifth with hits from sophomore Andrew Fatse (Hampden, Mass.), freshman Matt Fleishman (East Northport, N.Y.) and junior Justin Walz (Groton, Conn.) for a 3-2 score after five.

Clarkson followed with a run in the sixth and added one more in the seventh for the 5-2 advantage and shut out WNEC over the final two innings for the victory. Giordano, senior Sal DiSanza (Elbridge, N.Y.) and sophomore Justin McInerney (Grand Island, N.Y.) had one RBI each for the Golden Knights.

Freshman Mark DiTommaso (Hebron, Conn.) pitched 5.2 innings for the Golden Bears in the loss, striking out four and allowing two earned runs.

Clarkson will now face #3 RPI on Saturday, May 16th at Noon.
