Three in the Eighth Puts Rams over Mariners

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning would secure an 8-5 non-conference victory for the Farmingdale State baseball team (16-10) over the visiting Merchant Marine Mariners (8-7) tonight. Junior right hander Mike Biasi (Westbury, N.Y./Clarke) is awarded the win after pitching 1.1 innings, while junior closer Billy Garofalo (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) earned the save.

With the Rams leading 5-3, the Mariners tied it up in the top of the seventh with two runs on three hits. Biasi took the mound with one out left, striking out the last batter with the score 5-5. He pitched a scoreless eighth and Farmingdale took the lead with three runs during their next at-bats.

The Rams' brought in the starting lineup in the eighth inning to pinch hit/run, and they combined for the winning runs. Sophomore first baseman Kevin Curtis (Riverhead, N.Y./Riverhead) hit a single to right field, followed by a single by junior left fielder Donny Moscatelli (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) to score Curtis, and a double by junior designated hitter Mike Labrozzi (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) to score Moscatelli. Junior Ray Levan (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) pinch ran for Labrozzi and scored on a wild pitch.

Garofalo pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning, forcing two fly outs and a ground out to secure the victory and earn his fourth save of the season.

Farmingdale State will now host Polytechnic on Saturday, April 4th in a Skyline doubleheader at Noon. On Sunday, April 5th, they host Mount Saint Vincent for another conference doubleheader at Noon.
