Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State College
baseball team split with conference opponent Mount Saint Vincent
(13-9, 7-3), Sunday afternoon in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Rams now
hold a 19-11 overall record and are 10-2 in Skyline Conference
play.
In game one, senior starting pitcher Tom Heeman (Valley Stream,
N.Y./Hewlett) pitched 8.1 innings, allowing only one run and
striking out seven. Heeman held a no-hitter through four, before
junior Joe Blackford (Stewartsville, N.J./Warren Hills) led off the
top of the fifth inning with a double to center field. The only run
for the Dolphins came in the seventh on a John McManus (Bayside,
N.Y./Holy Cross) single to left center, scoring Mike Ruckdaschel
(East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow).
Junior catcher Zac Nersesian (Nyack, N.Y./Nyack) and junior left
fielder Don Moscatelli (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) each went
2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI for Farmingdale State. Junior
right fielder Frank Ennis (Commack, N.Y./Commack) was 1-for-4 with
an RBI and two runs scored for Rams.
In game two, Farmingdale fell behind early, as the Dolphins scored
seven unearned runs in the top of the second and took a 7-0 lead.
The Rams would score a run in the bottom of the fourth on a Mike
Labrozzi (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) RBI double, but Mount Saint
Vincent answered with a run in the fifth.
Farmingdale State scored five runs on six hits in the bottom of
the sixth and went into the final inning trailing 8-6. Two hits and
a walk left the bases loaded with two outs, but Blackford forced a
ground out to the shortstop and sealed the victory for the
Dolphins.
Labrozzi led the Rams offensively with four hits and two runs
batted in. Sophomore first baseman Kevin Curtis (Riverhead,
N.Y./Riverhead) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while freshman
catcher Frank Scarlato (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) had two hits
and an RBI.
Senior third baseman Josh Cuozzo (Westbury, N.Y./Clarke) led Mount
Saint Vincent with a team-high two hits and two RBI's.
Farmingdale will host Nassau Community College on Thursday, April
9th at 4:00 pm.
