Offense Powers Rams into Skyline Finals

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team scored 17 runs this afternoon to defeat St. Joseph's College and advance to the Skyline Conference Finals. The Rams now hold a 2-0 playoff record heading into Sunday.
Farmingdale scored the games first run in the top of the 2nd on a Frank Scarlatto (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) RBI double, scoring Mike Labrozzi (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson). The Rams would add four runs in the next inning, increasing the lead to 5-0. St. Joseph's would answer with three runs in the bottom of the 3rd capped of by a Jon Welsh (Bethpage, N.Y./Holy Trinity) two RBI single up the middle. Farmingdale would post 11 runs in the 6th inning, putting the game out of reach for the Golden Eagles. The Rams would go on to win 17-3 and secure a spot in the Conference Finals.
Junior center fielder Frank Yera (Manhattan, N.Y./Grand Central Campus) led the Rams for the second consecutive game with a 4-for-5 day at the plate, scoring three runs and recording three RBI. Junior right fielder Frank Ennis (Commack, N.Y./Commack) had three hits, three RBI and two runs scored, while Scarlatto went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in for Farmingdale. Freshman pitcher Chris Phelan (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) earned his fourth win of the season, pitching 6.2 innings and only allowing three runs.
The Golden Eagles were led by Welsh who went 1-for-3 at the plate with two runs batted in. Junior designated hitter Ryan Carroll (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) had one hit, an RBI and one run scored.
The Rams will play tomorrow at Noon against a winner to be determined.
