Heeman, Benvenuto and Curtis Named All-Region; Yera Wins Gold Glove

Farmingdale, N.Y. -The Farmingdale State College baseball team had three players nominated to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team and one player received the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award. Senior pitcher Tom Heeman (Valley Stream, N.Y./Hewlett), senior shortstop Brian Benvenuto (Dix Hills, N.Y./Hills West) and sophomore first baseman Kevin Curtis (Riverhead, N.Y./Riverhead) were all named First Team All-Region. Junior outfielder Frank Yera (Manhattan, N.Y./Grand Street Campus) received the Gold Glove Award.

Heeman currently has an 8-3 record with a 2.49 earned run average. He leads the Rams with 94 innings pitched and 71 strikeouts. Heeman has only walked 15 of the 360 batters he has faced this season.

Benvenuto is batting .388, has 50 hits and 36 runs batted in entering the College World Series. He has hit a team-high 13 doubles and holds an impressive .509 on base percentage. Benvenuto stole 15 bases and scored 36 runs this season for the Rams.

Curtis, the Skyline Conference Player of the Year, holds a .409 batting average, with 54 hits and 44 RBI. He has scored 29 runs and holds a .523 slugging percentage.

Yera, the Skyline Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player, holds a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage from his outfield position. He has played in 29 games for Farmingdale, starting in 24 and has 46 putouts on the season.
