Rams Split Home Doubleheader with Purchase

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team split a conference doubleheader at home today against Purchase College, with an 8-1 loss in game one followed by a 6-3 win in game two. The Rams now stand at 10-8, 4-2 in the Skyline, while the Panthers hold a record of 8-5, 2-4 in the conference.
The 9-inning first game took just 2 hours and nine minutes to play. No runs were scored until the top of the sixth when Purchase scored three runs on junior outfielder Mark Donahue's (Brookhaven, N.Y.) base-clearing double to right field to take the 3-0 lead. The Rams scored their only run in the seventh off an RBI single to left by sophomore designated hitter David Zilnicki (Riverhead, N.Y.), cutting the deficit to 3-1, but the Panthers added five runs over the final two innings for the win.
In game two, freshman right hander Mike Dolce (St. James, N.Y.) went 6.2 innings for his first win of the season (1-2), allowing seven hits and striking out three. Farmingdale went up 2-0 in the first with RBI singles from sophomore right fielder Terrence Bohonan (Patchogue, N.Y.) and senior shortstop Brandon Cruz (Bronx, N.Y.). Purchase tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the third, but the Rams would add four more and hold on for the win.
Farmingdale State will now host Oneonta State on Tuesday, March 29th for a single non-conference game at 3:30 p.m.
