Daytona Beach, FL - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team (7-3) finished in third place at Embry-Riddle University's Carrabba's Shootout with a 60-57 victory over Husson (8-4) in Daytona Beach, Florida on Saturday night. The Rams led the entire game and by as much as 11 points on three seperate occasions, but Husson used an 11-4 run in the final four minutes to cut the Farmingdale lead to three.
In the first half, the Rams shot 52.4 percent from the floor (12-of-23), while Husson struggled at 19.4 percent (6-of-31). Senior Terry Menefee (Montgomery, AL/Shawnee Mission North, KS) led the team with nine points and freshman John Gener Jr. (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond's) posted six points and five rebounds as Farmingdale took a 32-25 lead into the locker room.
Husson came out steaming in 3-point territory, hitting 6-of-11 three pointers in the second to keep the pressure on the Rams. Sophomore Damien Santana (Brooklyn, NY/Grady) and juniors Tom Canning (Oak Beach, NY/Babylon) and Peter Lipka (Shelton, CT/Shelton) took over the scoring in the second to maintain the lead.
For Farmingdale, Santana led the team with 10 points, while Canning posted a team-leading 11 rebounds and eight points. Lipka finished with nine points and 10 rebounds and Menefee added nine points. Gener Jr. tallied up eight points and seven boards and was named an All-Tournament Selection.
After the Rams return home, they face Maritime College for a Skyline Conference game on Wednesday, January 10th at 7:00pm.
