Damien Santana Named ECAC Metro Player of the Year
CAPE COD, Mass. – Damien Santana of Farmingdale State College has been chosen as the 2007-08 ECAC Division III Metro Men's Basketball Player of the Year, in a vote by the coaches at ECAC member institutions. Santana, the Skyline Conference Player of the Year, averaged 21.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game on the year. The junior guard helped Farmingdale to a 22-6 record, claiming the conference title and earning the Rams a spot in the NCAA tournament.
Yeshiva University's freshman forward, Zachary Gordon, has been
chosen as the 2007-08 ECAC Division III Metro Men's Basketball
Rookie of the Year, in addition to being
named to the ECAC second team. Gordon garnered the Skyline
Conference Rookie of the Year honor, after averaging 20.2 points
and 7.5 rebounds this season.
Junior guard Dana John from New Jersey City University leads the
other top performers joining Santana on the first team. Also
receiving first team recognition is Richard
Jean-Baptiste from Brooklyn College, Matt Byrnes of Rowan
University, and David Acree from St. Joseph's College (NY).
John makes his second appearance on the ECAC first team, making the
team in 2007 during his sophomore season. The guard put up numbers
of 17.8 points and 4.4 rebounds this year.
Jean-Baptiste ranked 14th in Division III in points with 22.8 per
contest, and led Brooklyn to the ECAC Metro semifinals. The
sophomore forward also pulled down an average of 7.2 rebounds, and
was named City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC)
Player of the Year for his efforts. Byrnes, a senior forward,
earned the distinction of New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC)
Offensive Player of the Year by scoring at a 21.6 point-per-game
clip throughout the season. A junior guard, Acree paced the Eagles
of St. Joseph's with averages of 18.7 points and 3.2 assists.
Four players besides Yeshiva's Gordon were also selected to an ECAC
second team: Abdoulaye Ouedraogo from William Paterson University,
Lamar Wright of Kean University, and Richard Stockton College
seniors Jon Greene and Mario Lancioni.

The Eastern College Athletic Conference is the nation's largest
athletic conference and only multi-divisional conference, with 321
member institutions and over 122,000 student-athletes ranging from
Maine to North Carolina and westerly to Illinois. The ECAC
publicizes the achievements of over 1,100 student-athletes annually
through the postseason all-stars. In men's basketball, the ECAC
awards one Division II all-star team and four regional Division III
all-star teams (New England, Upstate, Metro, and South).
