Rams Drop Home Opener to Baruch
Baruch - 71, Farmingdale State - 59
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team dropped their home opener this evening to Baruch (3-1). The Rams (0-2) trailed by eight at the half and would fall 71-59 to the Bearcats.
Farmingdale fell behind early, trailing 25-13 with 8:20 remaining in the first half. A 7-2 run over the next two minutes would cut the deficit to seven. The Bearcats went into halftime with a 39-31 advantage. Junior forwards Andre Martin (Bronx, N.Y./Evander Childs) and Nikita Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y./Telecommunication) led the way for Farmingdale with eight points each in the first half, while junior guard Tammer Farid (Woodside, N.Y./Stuyvesant) had a team-high 19 for Baruch before the break.
A quick 5-0 run to start the second half put the Bearcats up 44-31 at the 18:43 mark. Farmingdale was able to close within seven with 8:04 remaining, but Baruch countered with an 11-4 run, putting the game out of reach.
The Rams were led by Davis who had 19 points, six rebounds and three steals. Andre Martin had 10 points, while Shahee Martin (Queens, N.Y./West Hempstead) led the team with eight boards.
Tammer had a game-high 23 points for Baruch and junior guard Chris Beauchamp (Queens, N.Y./Xavier) pitched in with 15 points.
Farmingdale hosts St. Joseph's College for the first Skyline Conference game of the season on Tuesday, December 1st at 8:00 pm.
