Defense Leads Farmingdale Past Blue Knights

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team defeated Mount Saint Mary, 68-48, improving to 6-7 overall, 6-2 in the Skyline Conference. The Rams held Mount Saint Mary (6-9, 5-5 Skyline) to 48 points and forced the Blue Knights to shoot 31% from the field.
With the game tied 8-8 midway through the first half, the Rams took the lead on a quick 5-0 run with a layup by Nikita Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y./Telecommunication) and an open three-point jumper by Ricco Oliver (Brooklyn, N.Y./Boys and Girls). Farmingdale allowed only 16 points before the break and went into halftime with a 24-16 lead. Mount Saint Mary shot 6-for-22 (27.3%) from the floor in the first half.
The Rams held at least a 10 point lead until freshman guard Eric Boesch (Kingston, N.Y./John A. Coleman Catholic) hit a three-pointer, cutting the deficit to 43-36 with 10:19 remaining. Farmingdale went on a 15-7 run over the next six minutes, increasing the lead to 15 points and sealing the home victory.
Davis led the Rams with 18 points and seven rebounds, while senior guard Terrance Howard (Queens, N.Y./Cardozo) and junior guard Shahee Martin (Queens, N.Y./West Hempstead) each scored 11.
The Blue Knights were led by junior forward Tim Morris (Greenwich, N.Y./Greenwich) who shot 50% from the floor, scoring 10 points. Sophomore forward Kevin Milella (Floral Park, N.Y./Kellenberg) added nine points and six rebounds.
Farmingdale State will travel to Purchase College for a Skyline Conference game on Tuesday, January 19th at 8:00 p.m.
