First Place Knights Take Win over Rams
Mount Saint Mary - 74, Farmingdale State - 68
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Mount Saint Mary College Knights defeated Farmingdale State 74-68 in today's Skyline Conference men's basketball game in Farmingdale, N.Y. The Knights improved to 15-5, 13-3 in the conference with the win, while Farmingdale dropped to 12-8, 11-4 in the Skyline.
Mount Saint Mary led 25-22 at the half, despite struggling from long range (0-for-12), but came out in the second and shot 60-percent from three-point territory to go on for the six point victory. The game featured 16 lead changes before the Knights took the final lead of the day with 7:23 left to play on a three-pointer from sophomore guard Lenny Ragaglia (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys).
Farmingdale State was led by junior guard Dyshaun Flournoy (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) with a game-high 20 points, including four three's. Junior guard Richard Payton (Amityville, N.Y./Amityville) finished with 12 points, three assists, three steals. Junior guard Joshua Smith (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) had five assists and three steals for the day, along with seven points and four rebounds.
With four players in double figures, Mount Saint Mary's junior forward Carlos Valdez (Carolina, Puerto Rico/Minisink Valley) scored a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Senior forward Tim Morris (Greenwich, N.Y./Greenwich) had 18 points, Ragaglia had 12 points and freshman guard Donte Howell (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) finished with 10 points.
The Rams will now host Old Westbury in a Skyline game on Tuesday, February 8th at 8:00 p.m. The game is a fundraiser to raise awareness on Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Women's game starts at 6:00 p.m. General admission is $2, admission with student ID will be $1.
