Late Run Leads Rams Past Sage

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Leading 62-58 with 7:46 remaining, Farmingdale State outscored Sage 23-16 over the final minutes to earn an 85-74 win in the regular season finale. The Rams improved to 16-9 overall, 15-5 in the Skyline Conference, while the Gators dropped to 13-12, 10-10 in conference play.
Farmingdale State led 14-8 in the opening minutes of the contest, before Sage went on a 10-2 run to take an 18-16 lead with 9:36 remaining. After a Rams timeout, a 3-pointer and layup by junior guard Dyshaun Flournoy (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) sparked a 7-0 Farmingdale run and a 23-18 advantage. The Rams took a 41-36 lead into halftime.
Leading 62-58 with 7:47 to play, Flournoy hit a 3 and was sent to the free-throw line for a four-point play opportunity. Flournoy did not convert at the line, but senior forward Jermaine Abraham (Brooklyn, N.Y./Wadleigh) was there for the offensive rebound and tip-in, giving Farmingdale State a 67-58 advantage. The Rams opened up an 18 point lead down the stretch and went on for the Skyline victory.
Farmingdale State had three seniors playing in their final regular season home game this afternoon. Senior guards John Dabney (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) and Keith Nandin (Queens, N.Y./St. Francis Prep.) scored 17 and 14 points, respectively. Abraham scored nine points and had a game-high 15 rebounds. Junior guard Joshua Smith (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) led the Rams with a team-high 19 points.
Junior forward Dalton Austin-Michaud (Valatie, N.Y./Ichibod Crane) recorded a game-high 23 points for Sage, while sophomore forward Matt Farbotko (Rouses point, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) pitched in with 15.
Farmingdale State has earned the #4 seed for the Skyline playoffs and will host a first round game against #5 Old Westbury on Tuesday, February 22nd at 6:00 p.m.
