Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball fell in double overtime in tonight's quarterfinal game of the Skyline Conference playoffs against rival Old Westbury (13-13). The fifth-seeded Panthers upset the #4 Rams (16-10) with a 98-96 win to advance to the semifinal game against top-seed Purchase on Thursday night, February 24th at 7:00 p.m.

After trailing by five at the half, the Rams tied the game at 40 on a layup by junior guard Joshua Smith (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) with 16:25 showing on the clock. The Panthers went back up by 12 points over the next 10 minutes and with Farmingdale in foul trouble the game seemed out of reach. A three-pointer by Farmingdale missed and would send the game to overtime.

In the first overtime, Old Westbury led by two with 2:10 left before three consecutive layups by Farmingdale off of two forced turnovers by senior guard Keith Nandin (Queens, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) would give the Rams a four point edge, 85-81 with 1:16 on the clock. Still up by three with 35 seconds remaining, Granjean hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 87-87. A final play by Farmingdale wouldn't fall and we saw a second overtime.

The game came down to the final minute, with the Rams leading by one, 96-95. A foul sent Granjean to the line for Old Westbury and he was 2-for-2 to give his team the lead, 97-96 with 55 seconds left. Another Panther free throw by junior guard Jamal Little (Spring Valley, N.Y./Spring Valley) with 23 seconds left gave his team a two point advantage.
