Skyline Releases Men's Basketball Report #10
- Matthews named Player of the Week, Johnson named Rookie of the Week -
New York, N.Y. - The Skyline Conference released the 10th men's Basketball report for the 2011-12 season this afternoon, including Player of the Week, Rookie of the Week, Honor Roll and Conference statistics.
Junior forward AJ Matthews (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was named the Skyline Conference Player of the Week for men's basketball. Matthews continued his torrid pace in leading the Rams to a pair of key league wins this week. In a 71-70 OT win over Old Westbury, he had 22 points and 19 rebounds. Matthews fell one block shy of a triple double as he scored 22 points, had 23 boards and nine blocks in a 76-55 win over Mount Saint Mary. AJ set Farmingdale State single game school records in both rebounds and blocks per game. He leads the nation in rebounds per game (15.6), double doubles (16) and is ranked second in blocked shots per game (4.0).
Freshman forward Ibrahim Johnson (New York, N.Y.) was named the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week. Johnson was solid in both Skyline wins this week. He averaged 9.5 points per game on 89% FG and 5.0 rebounds on the week. Johnson had 11 points and six boards versus Old Westbury and eight points and five rebounds against Mount Saint Mary.
