Farmingdale State broke open a 4-2 lead with three straight goals, two by freshman attackman Gianluca Carrabs (Glen Cove, NY) to lead the Rams to a convincing 15-4 win over Vassar in men's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon at Prentiss Field.
With the victory, Farmingdale improves to 7-6 while Vassar falls to 1-11.
Vassar scored first on a goal freshman attackman Eric Schrager (Santa Maria,CA) off an assist from sophomore midfielder Michael Littlefield (Floral Park, NY). After that first tally by the Brewers, the Rams took control, building a 9-3 halftime lead on goals by junior Mike Cullen (Merrick, NY), junior Patrick Eustache (Queens, NY), sophomore Ryan LaFlare (Lindenhurst, NY), junior Jeremy Goohs (Merrick, NY), junior Tom Stanley (Baldwin, NY) and sophomore Joe Meola (Rocky Point, NY).
The Rams added six goals after intermission, two in the third and four in the fourth, led by Eustache, LaFlare, Goohs and Cullen, all of whom scored their second goals of the game.
Vassar got an unassisted goal from Dave Weymouth in the second period and one from freshman midfielder Joe Mueller (Raleigh, NC) in the third period. Schrager got his second goal, off an another assist from Littlefield, to end Vassar's scoring in the fourth period.
Vassar sophomore goalie Will Widen (Glen Ridge, NJ) made 18 saves, facing 33 shots. Farmingdale freshman goalie Chris Hardgrove (Farmingdale, NY) made eight saves and was relieved by fellow freshman Kevin Winters (Baldwin, NY) who also made four saves after entering the game at the start of the fourth quarter.
Farmingdale State had 25 ground balls and Vassar had 32.
