St. Mary's City, MD - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team opened up their 2006 season in Maryland against St. Mary's with a 19-8 non-conference loss on Tuesday afternoon. Senior Dave Mueller (Baltimore, MD/North County) tied St. Mary's school record for total points in the contest with 11, after scoring seven goals and adding four assists. The Rams (0-1) took an early 2-0 lead just 1:11 into the contest, but St. Mary's (1-0) responded by scoring the next eight goals to take an 8-2 lead after the first period of play.
Junior Ryan LaFlare (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) led the Rams with three goals while three other players all added one goal apiece. Freshman Kevin Sharkey (Bellmore, NY/Mepham) added two assists on the afternoon for Farmingdale. Junior Chris Hardgrove (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) took the loss in net for the Rams. Hardgrove allowed 15 goals through three periods and made ten saves in the contest. He was relieved by junior Kevin Winters (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) at the start of the fourth period. Winters allowed four goals with two saves in 15 minutes of action.
Mueller led the Seahawks with seven goals and four assists. Sophomore Pat Oliphant (Chatham, NJ/Chatham) added four goals and one assist, while senior Pat Donovan (Arnold, MD/Spaulding) contributed three goals and four assists in the win. Junior Rich Barr (Salisbury, MD/Worcester Prep) earned the win in net for the Seahawks.
The Rams now travel to face Marymount University on Saturday, February 25th at 1:00pm.
