Farmingdale State, 12
Centenary College, 6
Hackettstown, NJ - On Thursday afternoon, the Rams won their second Knickerbocker Lacrosse Conference game against Centenary College 12-6.
In the games opening quarter it looked like it was going to be Centenary's day, as the Cyclones jumped out to a 4-2 advantage. The Cyclones Ryan Loomis (Bridgewater/Bridgewater) tallied both of his goals in the first 15-minutes of play, putting the home team ahead by a two-goal cushion. Unfortunately from there, the Cyclones offense went silent as the Rams defensive pressure combined with a strong face-off, which won 14 of the games 21 starts, did not allow another Centenary goal until the two-minute mark of the third quarter.
Over that time frame Farmingdale was able to regain the lead 5-4, on a goal by Ryan LaFlare (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) with just two minutes to go in the half. The Rams tacked on one more in the final minute, to hold a 6-4 advantage at the halftime break. The second half proved to be more of the same, as Farmingdale kept control of the ball and made the Cyclones play from behind. By the time the Cyclones Matt Rogers (Leonardtown, MD/Leonardtown) scored their fifth goal at the 2:02 mark of the third period, Farmingdale was already up 10-5. The two teams combined for three scores over the final 15 minutes, as the Rams notched their fourth victory of the season.
Farmingdale was led by LaFlare and Jeremy Goohs (Merrick, NY/Calhoun) who each scored four goals. Goohs also added an assist for game high total of five points. Rams' goalie Chris Hardgrove (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) made eight saves in the win. For Centenary Loomis scored twice, while teammates Eric Dechert (Avalon/Middle Twp.), Matt Rogers, Nick Csenteri (Columbus/NBC) and Ryan Mangold (Hillsborough/Hillsborough) each added one.
