Rifice’s Five Goals Not Enough in Home Opener
Oswego State - 9, Farmingdale State - 8
Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Farmingdale State
men’s lacrosse team (0-2) dropped their home-opener in
Farmingdale, N.Y. this afternoon to Oswego State (1-1) by the score
of 9-8. Freshman attack Eddie Refice (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon)
carried the Rams with five goals on the day.
The Lakers jumped out to a 2-0 lead on back-to-back goals by
junior midfielder Mike Recor (Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa).
Farmingdale State scored two goals late in the second period.
Freshman attack Joey Stroessenreuther (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage)
tied it with two seconds left in the half.
Oswego broke the tie in the third period with a quick goal by
sophomore attack Dan Scarazzo (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), only 15
seconds after the start of play. The Rams would be outscored in the
third period, 4-2.
The Lakers would take a commanding 8-4 lead with 13:01 left in the
game on Scarazzo’s second goal of the afternoon. Farmingdale
didn’t give up and answered with two goals with in 35 seconds
of one another. One goal was by Stroessenreuther and the other was
a man-up opportunity by Rifice. Freshman attack Cam Devoy
(Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) scored the eventual game-winning
goal with 7:54 remaining, giving Oswego a 9-6 lead. Rifice added
two more late in the fourth as the Rams tried to mount a
comeback.
For Farmingdale State, Stroessenreuther finished with two goal and
two assists. Senior attack Joe Meola (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky
Point) added two assists. Junior goalkeeper Teddy Leone (East
Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) stopped 19 of the Lakers’
shots.
Oswego was lead by Recor with three goals. Devoy had two goals and
an assist. Senior midfielder Dan Rogers (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier)
added a goal, two assists and eight ground balls. Sophomore goalie
Judd Robinson (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) had 14 saves.
The Rams will travel to Division II opponent Molley College on
Wednesday, March 12 at 4:00 p.m.
