Guilford College - 13, Farmingdale State - 5
Greensboro, N.C. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team fell, 13-5, in a non-conference game at Guilford College this afternoon in Greensboro, N.C. The Rams now stand at 1-3, while the Quakers improved to 4-2.
Farmingdale State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as sophomore midfielder Mike Strebel (Northport, N.Y.) scored off the pass from junior attack Steven Suris (Massapequa, N.Y.). Guilford College scored three unanswered goals and held a 3-1 lead after the first period.
The Quakers scored three goals in the first 5:52 of the second period to open up a 6-1 advantage. The Rams were held scoreless the remainder of the period and went into the halftime break trailing 6-1.
Guilford extended their lead to 11-1 before sophomore midfielder Nicholas Mattei (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal for Farmingdale State with 1:32 left in the third.
The Rams outscored the Quakers 3-2 in the final period en route to the 13-5 non-conference loss.
Suris had a team-high three points with one goal and two assists, while Strebel scored a pair of goals for Farmingdale State. Sophomore midfielder Donovan Devaney (East Northport, N.Y.) was 10-of-17 on face-offs, scored one goal and picked up seven ground balls.
Guilford was led by freshman attack Adam Fiore (Ithaca, N.Y.) who had a game-high three goals and senior attack Henry Farley (Decatur, Ga.) who scored two goals and added two assists.
The Rams next will travel to McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland for a non-conference game on Saturday, March 16 at noon.
