Guilford Earns Non-Conference Win Over Rams

Greensboro, N.C. - Leading 3-2, Guilford scored nine unanswered goals en route to a 12-5 non-conference victory over Farmingdale State on Wednesday afternoon. The Rams fell to 1-2 on the season, while the Quakers improved to a perfect 4-0.
Farmingdale State freshman midfielder Daniel Desimone (Plainview, N.Y.) opened the scoring only 2:48 into the game off junior Mike Strebel's (East Northport, N.Y.) pass to give the Rams an early 1-0 advantage. Sophomore midfielder Chase Rogers (The Woodlands, Texas) evened the score with an unassisted goal only 1:14 later. After two Guilford goals, junior attack Philip Schaefer (Holbrook, N.Y.) cut the Farmingdale State deficit to 3-2 at the end of the first period.
The Quakers scored all four goals in the second period to take a 7-2 advantage into the halftime break.
In the third, senior midfielder Chase Clausen (Canby, Ore.) and sophomore midfielder Dylan Haupt (Cary, N.C.) each scored a pair of goals to extend the Guilford lead to 11-2.
Schaefer led the way with two goals, while junior midfielder Donovan Devaney (East Northport, N.Y.) was 6-for-12 on face-offs and had four ground balls.
Haupt and Clausen each scored a game-high three goals in the victory for Guilford.
Freshman goalkeeper Nicholas Fasano (Franklin Square, N.Y.) recorded 12 saves for Farmingdale State, while junior Thomas Deane (St. Louis, Mo.) had four saves in 52 minutes of action for the Quakers.
The Rams next will face Greensboro on Saturday, March 8th at 1:00 p.m.
