Farmingdale, N.Y. - Freshman midfielder Adan Cruz-Velazquez (Huntington, N.Y.) scored the games only goal to give Old Westbury a 1-0 victory over Farmingdale State in today's Skyline Conference men's soccer game. The Panthers improved to 5-5-1 overall, 1-2-1 in conference play with the win, while the Rams dropped to 5-6 overall, 1-2 in the Skyline.
In a scoreless first half, Farmingdale State held a 5-1 shot advantage with a couple chances rolling just wide of the net.
Old Westbury broke the tie in the 76th minute as sophomore midfielder Anthony Ippolito (North Bellmore, N.Y.) tapped the ball to Cruz-Velazquez for the score and the 1-0 lead. The Rams had scoring chances throughout the second half, but couldn't find the back of the net as senior goalkeeper Marcelo Guardado (Huntington Station, N.Y.) made six saves in the half and seven overall for the win.
Farmingdale State will next host Maritime College on Wednesday, October 9th in another conference match-up.
