Rams Fall at Top-Seeded Merchant Marine

#1 Merchant Marine - 3, #4 Farmingdale State - 2

Kings Point, N.Y. - The fourth-seeded Farmingdale State men's soccer team traveled to #1 Merchant Marine for the Skyline Conference Semifinals and fell, 3-2.

Merchant Marine (12-4-2) opened the scoring 11 minutes into the game on a Gavin Yingling (Salisbury, Md.) goal off the pass from Jon Tarbox (Gettysburg, Pa.). Only 4:26 later, Yingling recorded his second goal of the afternoon to put the Mariners on top, 2-0. Neither team would score the remainder of the way in the first half as Merchant Marine took the 2-0 advantage into halftime.

With 34:29 remaining, FSC (10-8) sophomore forward Richard Mastrangelo III (Dix Hills, N.Y.) tallied an unassisted goal to cut the deficit to 2-1.

In the 72nd minute, the Mariners regained their two-score advantage on a goal from Hannes Rogers (Weinheim, Germany) as Tarbox picked up his second assist of the day.

Farmingdale State again cut the deficit to one with 3:37 left on the clock with an unassisted score to the top left corner of the net by sophomore midfielder Christian Campos (Huntington Station, N.Y.). The Rams attempted their final shot of the day at the buzzer but it was blocked as the Mariners held on for the 3-2 victory.

Merchant Marine advances to the Finals where they will host the winner of #6 Sage/#2 Mount Saint Mary.
