Men's Tennis Advances to Skyline Championship Match

Farmingdale, N.Y. - In just their second season as a varsity program, the second-seeded Farmingdale State men's tennis team (9-2) has advanced to the Skyline Championship match, after defeating #3 seed Bard, 5-0, today in the Semifinals. The Rams swept the doubles matches to hold a 3-0 lead going into the singles section of the match.
With wins from senior Matt Kaczmarczyk (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) and sophomore Chris Genzmann (Massapequa, N.Y./Farmingdale), the Rams went up 5-0 and the match was called as a victory, as the playoff format suggests a stoppage of the match after a team wins five-of-nine matches.
Doubles victories were recorded by sophomore Joe Passarella (Flushing, N.Y./Holy Cross) and freshman Tom Johnsen (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge)with an 8-1 win at #1 singles. Kaczmarczyk and Genzmann won at #2 doubles, 8-3. Freshman Corey Bentivegna (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) and freshman Mike D'Agostaro (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) also won 8-3 at third singles.
The Rams will now face the winner of #1 St. Joseph's / #4 Yeshiva in the Championship match on Saturday, May 2nd at St. Joe's (if St. Joe's wins), or on Sunday, May 3rd at Farmingdale (if Yeshiva wins).
The Skyline Champions will receive an automatic bid to the Division III NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament.
