#4 Mount Saint Mary - 5, #5 Farmingdale State - 2
Newburgh, N.Y. - The fifth-seeded Rams fell 5-2 to the fourth-seed Knights tonight in the First Round of the Skyline Conference Men's Tennis Championship. Farmingdale State ends the season with a record of 8-10, while Mount Saint Mary (9-6) advances to face top-seed Yeshiva on Thursday, May 4.
The Rams #3 doubles tandem of sophomore Josh Kaplan (Greenlawn, N.Y.) and freshman Joseph Napoli (Farmingdale, N.Y.) got the first win of the day with an 8-0 shutout over MSMC freshman Kyle McIntyre (Drexel Hill, Pa.) and sophomore Joe Ryan (Wantagh, N.Y.). The Knights tied it up with an 8-2 win at 2nd doubles before taking a 2-1 advantage with an 8-4 1st doubles win.
In the singles competition, Mount Saint Mary senior Owen Heath (Jamestown, R.I.) defeated junior Patrick Madigan (Sayville, N.Y.) 6-2, 6-3 in the #4 match, while junior Chris Jaros (Marlboro, N.Y.) made it 4-1 Knights with a tiebreaker win at 6th singles, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4), over freshman Stephano Desaro (Glen Cove, N.Y.).
Sophomore James Roth (Massapequa, N.Y.) posted a win at #5 singles, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 6-0, over McIntyre to make it 4-2 Knights, before the match-winning point came from MSMC sophomore Chris McGorty (Bellmore, N.Y.) at 2nd singles.
Both the 1st and 3rd singles matches were in their third sets before play was halted.
