Farmingdale State Picks Up Road Win at USMMA

Farmingdale State - 6, Merchant Marine - 3

Kings Point, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's tennis team traveled to the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Wednesday afternoon for a Skyline Conference match and won, 6-3. The Rams have now won five straight and improved to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

FSC trailed 2-1 after three closely contested doubles matches. At #1 doubles, Rams' freshman Mark Baker (North Baldwin, N.Y.) and senior Daniel Kafka (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) earned an 8-4 win before freshman Malik Bass (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and sophomore Steven Gaudio (Miller Place, N.Y.) dropped second doubles, 8-4. Mariners' (4-3, 2-2 Skyline) senior Madeline Smith (Mesa, Ariz.) and freshman John Guettlein (Arvada, Colo.) picked up an 8-6 victory at third doubles over Farmingdale State junior Elijah McCall (West Babylon, N.Y.) and sophomore Colby Rodriguez (Huntington Station, N.Y.).

The Rams took five of six singles matches en route to the 6-3 victory. Baker registered a 6-2, 6-0 win at first singles, while Kafka (7-6 (9-7), 6-0) and Bass (6-0, 6-4) earned points in the third and fourth slots, respectively. FSC's Chris Molchan (Mattituck, N.Y.) took a tie-breaker at fifth singles (4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-2)), while teammate Cooper Everett (Long Beach, N.Y.) rounded out the match with a shutout 6-0, 6-0 win in the sixth position.

Farmingdale State next travels to play non-conference opponent Manhattanville on Friday, April 12th at 3:30 p.m.
