
Indoor Track Season Recap
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The men's and women's indoor
track teams finished a very successful season as they set a school
record qualifying 12 people in 18 events at the ECAC Championships.
At the ECAC Championship, held at Harvard University on March 6th
and 7th, junior Cathryn Mclean placed 6th in the High Jump becoming
the first woman scorer in school history at the ECAC's, which also
qualified her for the NCAA Championship at Ohio Northern
University.
At the ECAC's, the men's team was led my junior Naveed Mohammed,
who scored in three events including the 55-meter Dash, Long Jump
and the 4x220-meter Relay team. Mohammed led that relay team to a
third place finish joined by Reuben Hairston, Jason Chin Chitty and
Kensley Norian. Other notable performances at the ECAC Championship
were Chris Herbst, Qasim Ellis and Kurt Johns-Harris who all
performed a season best in the Triple Jump. Junior Earl Noel had a
personal best in the 55-meter Hurdles.
At the National Tournament, Mclean placed 8th in the High Jump
becoming the first woman in Farmingdale State College history to
gain All-American status at the Division III level.
The men's and women's teams broke several school records throughout
the season. Sophomore Gina Pierre broke the school record in the
20-pound Weight Throw at the Rider Indoor Games with a toss of 37'
8". Senior captain Chris Okolie smashed his own school record in
the Weight Throw at the Great Dane Invitational. Seniors Reggie
Routier and Akil Williams defended their CTC Triple Jump and High
Jump titles to lead the men's indoor team to a third place finish
at the Yale Indoor Invitational. The men's indoor track team placed
second at the CTC relays and the women's team placed 4th, which was
the highest finish in school history for both teams.
