Qasim Ellis Qualifies for National Championship
Manhattan, N.Y. - Sophomore Qasim Ellis (Farmingdale, N.Y. / Farmingdale) placed 5th in the triple jump with a leap of 14.08m (46' 2 1/2") to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships. This years championship will be held in Terre Haute, Indiana on March 13-14. Ellis moved into 4th place All-Time at Farmingdale State College with his impressive triple jump. Qasim also improved his ECAC long jump qualifying mark with a 5th place jump of 6.82m (22' 4 1/2"), the eighth best jump in Farmingdale history.
Two other athletes qualified for the ECAC meet at Tufts University, March 6-7. Junior Kurt Johns-Harris (Stonybrook, N.Y. / Ward Melville) triple jumped 13.54m (44' 5 1/4") to place just behind Ellis in 6th place. Junior Jermaine Carter (Rego Park, N.Y. / Mt. St. Michael Academy) ran the 400m in 50.53 seconds to qualify. Carter moved into 9th place on the FSC All-Time list.
