Hairston Wins Triple Jump at KP Invitational

The outdoor track team traveled to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy for the Kings Point Invitational on Friday, May 6th in Kings Point, NY. Despite the poor weather conditions, the team was able to post some excellent performances highlighted by freshman Reuben Hairston’s (Freeport, NY/Freeport) winning triple jump. Reuben jumped a personal best 13.75m (45’ ˝”) to qualify for the ECAC Championships on May 19th and 20th at Springfield College in Massachusetts. He is number five on the All-Time list. Reuben will compete in both the long and triple jumps and run on the 4x100m and 4x400m Relays at the ECAC meet.

Also competing in four events at the ECAC’s is freshman Ian Morgan (Amityville, NY/Amityville). Morgan won the 100m (11.42) and 200m (22.34) and will also add both relays to these individual events in Massachusetts.

Other notable performances:

Reggie Routier – 110m Hurdles, 16.87, 1st place; and 200m, 24.28, 3rd place

David Casillas – Javelin, 39.14, 128’ 5”, 2nd place, new personal best

Alberto Soberanes – 10,000m, 34:10.87, 3rd place, new personal best

Mariama Conteh – 100m, 15.33, 4th place; and 200m, 31.04, 3rd place

Ian Lovergie – Long Jump, 6.24m (20’4 ˝”), 1st place
