Fischer No-Hitter Completes Doubleheader Sweep

Farmingdale, NY The Farmingdale State women's softball team improved to 2-5 overall with a doubleheader win over Purchase (0-2) today in Farmingdale, NY. In the first game, the Rams came back from a two-run deficit to tie it up in the fifth and take the lead in the sixth for a 4-2 victory. In game two, freshman pitcher Rachele Fischer (Medford, NY/Patchogue-Medford) tossed a no-hitter for an 8-0 win.

Purchase jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on junior Alexis Mercado's (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Spellman) double to right center, scoring freshman Emily Stanley (Holmes, NY/Carmel) and sophomore Kim Corbett (East Islip, NY/East Islip). Mercado finished 2-for-3 in the game with two runs batted in. The Rams came back in the fifth inning with senior Tiffany deBeaumont's (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) RBI double and freshman Kristen Dawes (Babylon, NY/Babylon) RBI single to tie it up at 2-2. In the sixth, junior Gina Moscato (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) scored the go-ahead run on sophomore Jaclyn Buckshaw's (Oakdale, NY/Connetquot) ground ball to first base.

In game two, Moscato singled up the middle in the third inning to bring in the only run the Rams would need. Moscato went 3-for-3 in the game with a double and three runs batted in. Tiffany deBeaumont finished 2-for-3 with two RBI's and one run scored. Rachele Fischer faced 16 batters in five innings pitched (one over the minimum), allowing no hits and only one walk to improve her record on the mound to 1-1.

The Rams host Mount Saint Mary for a conference game on Saturday, March 25th at noon.
