Farmingdale, NY - The Farmingdale State softball team improved to 3-6 overall, splitting their first conference doubleheader with Mount Saint Mary College (2-5, 1-1 Skyline) on Saturday afternoon in Farmingdale, NY. The Rams fell 1-0 in the first game and then run-ruled the Blue Knights in game two, 13-5.
In game one, Mount Saint Mary took a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning off a double by junior Jennifer Weiner (Walden, NY/Valley Central) which scored senior Sarah Studler (Lagrange, NY/Arlington) from first base. Weiner finished the game 2-for-3 with two doubles. Freshman pitcher Christina Maiocco (Rockaway Beach, NY/Bishop Kearney) got the win on the mound allowing eight hits in seven innings pitched. Farmingdale State junior Devan Weber (Huntington, NY/Huntington) led the Rams with three hits, while sophomore pitcher Jaclyn Buckshaw (Oakdale, NY/Connetquot) pitched seven innings allowing five hits with just two walks and striking out four batters.
In game two, the Rams took a 4-0 lead in the second inning, before Mount Saint Mary came back in the top of the third with five runs to take the lead 5-4. Farmingdale responded in the fourth with four more runs and five runs in the sixth inning ended the game on the run-rule. Freshman pitcher Rachele Fischer (Medford, NY/Patchogue-Medford) picked up her second win of the season. Sophomore Erin Dodge (Plainedge, NY/Island Trees) finished with two hits, including a base clearing three-RBI triple in the second inning. Junior Ashley Kenney (Huntington, NY/Huntington) had three hits and three runs batted in. Junior Gina Moscato (Hicksville, NY/Hicksville) had two hits and two runs batted in.
The Rams play St. Joseph's College on Friday, March 31st for another Skyline doubleheader starting at 3:30pm.
